Doing Archival Research in Cambridge

Cambridge is a city with a remarkable number of resources for a person interested in historical research. One problem, however, is that it can be hard to figure out where the collections are, and what, if any, other overlapping information may be held by different organizations. This web site is meant to help individuals navigate within these collections. Before looking at collection information, it would be a good idea to review the strengths and policies of different organizations. This might help you decide whom would be most useful to contact. It should also be understood that there are other collecting organizations in Cambridge that are not participating in this site.

It should be understood that each organization has its own organizational system. Therefore, there may be overlapping subjects.

On this site, there are three basic categories: Archival Collections, Photo Collections, and Topical files. This site is primarily set up to provide information on the archival collections but there is also information on photo collections and topical files.
